Hannah Allen is a PhD student specializing in Film Studies. Her research interests include film theory, the history of censorship, obscenity law, special effects, and sound. Her dissertation focuses on the relationship between film theory, legal discourse, and literature in order to explore how the obscene functions as an implicit element of ontological and medium specific theories of film. It also considers how obscenity operates as a particular mode of cinematic vision.
